Fioricet® is indicated for the relief of tension headache
symptoms caused by muscle contractions in the head, neck,
and shoulder area.
Fioricet is a barbiturate sedative (butalbital 50mg) mixed
with a non-aspirin pain medication (acetaminophen 325mg
) and caffeine 40mg. This non-narcotic pain medication
and relaxant is often prescribed for tension headaches
caused by contractions of the muscles in the neck and shoulder
area and for migraine headaches.
The usual dose of Fioricet is 1 or 2 tablets every 4 hours
as needed. Total daily dosage should not exceed 6 tablets.
Extended and repeated use is not recommended because of
the potential for physical dependence.
